Our Design Philosophy

Solve for emotions

Humans take decisions based on emotions more often than rationality. As designers, we wouldn’t be doing our jobs if we didn’t think about the emotional reaction that our work evokes.

Its all about the trade-offs

There will always be too many things to convey on a card, too many personas to satisfy with a feature, and too many flows to account for on a screen. We think deeply about what matters most, and then boldy make compromises where necessary. Smart trade-offs like these, we believe, are what differentiate good design from bad.

Attention to detail

We may not be able to consciously count the pixels or pin point the hex code of colors, but the human brain can always tell when something is off. For example, it is a well documented fact that humans receive a dopamine hit when they see symmetrical objects. So whether it is screens or cards or graphics, we believe that the devil does lie in the detail.

Challenges in Design @ SuperShare

Designing for Everybody

This is the classic struggle of consumer social apps.

The sea of internet users today is full of diversity. Everyone is a part of the content economy is one way or another - as a consumer, creator, community leader, sharer, or a brand. As a designer at SuperShare, every day is about empathizing with each of these personas and finding ways to exceede their expectations.

Come for the Tool, stay for the Platform

The job of SuperShare as a tool is to let users share content seamlessly and without friction, and to get the hell out of the way. Whereas, the job of SuperShare as a platform is to allow them to discover great content and engage actively within vibrant communities.

These objectives are naturally in conflict, which makes for a stimulating design challenge.

Inclusive yet Opinionated

Our reward system, in a very cred-like fashion, is an arcade of offerings from various brands that we work with, each having their own imagery and visual constraints.

Graphics designers at SuperShare learn to do justice to the respective brands while maintaining our own unique brand identity and taste.

Balancing Gamification with Over-Justification

We’re huge fans of gamification, and as such we have tinkered with almost every manifestation of it in our app - Points, Badges, Leaderboards, Slot Machines, Raffles, etc. The trick, we realized, is to not overdo it to the point that external incentives kill intrinsic motivation i.e. the Over-Justification effect.
